Before Jake attended Osgoode Hall Law School, he was a police officer with the Toronto Police Service for many years. During his policing career, he worked at various divisions and units. Therefore, Jake is very familiar with police operation and investigative techniques. As someone who worked at the frontline of our Canadian criminal justice system, Jake saw first-hand how the criminal justice system can impact an individual’s life, which inspired him to pursue law and criminal defence.
While at law school, Jake was accepted to the renowned Criminal Intensive Program, and completed his placement at a busy Crown Attorney’s Office, where he scored top marks in every category of his placement evaluation.
After law school, Jake articled at the Ontario Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD): the agency that oversees and investigates all public complaints against police officers in Ontario. During his article, Jake participated in several high-profile police misconduct investigations, Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC) appeals, judicial reviews and systemic reviews concerning police use of force, strip-search and etc.
Such unique experience has equipped Jake with the ability to look at police investigations from different angles, and spot errors, deficiencies and illegalities effectively to construct the best defence available to his clients.
